Summary:

In Richard Rodriguez “Around the world women are on the move” shows different examples of how society for women has changed over times. Around the world women are becoming more independent even when obstacles are thrown their way. Women used to be unable to study or learn to read and write; in fact, they were punished if ever they tried learning. Now a days women stand in their feet and face the fears of racism by the male population against female learning. Women’s population now overthrows male population, whether is at jobs or in education, that was meant to be done only by male. Rodriguez shows examples of some of the greatest female contributions in history; for example, “Sacagawea” known for her role in leading two of the  greatest explorers across the Missouri River and the Rockies. We as women this day are independent known for pushing forward and to not let ourselves be diminished by anyone.  History has been evolving since the first female took a step forward to give other female’s a chance to strive higher, and set goals for their future.

Critical Response:

Reading this made me think how nobody from my family has ever gone to college or gotten a better future. It makes me wonder what happen in the past that didn’t allow my family to continue with their study’s. I have relatives that are smart beyond my expectations. When I ask them, what happen? why didn’t you continue with your studies? their answer is simple, “my family needed me to start working in the farms to help support the house”. I feel a sadness in my heart but at the end I see my cousins working their way up to college. In my household my dad did get a degree in mechanics, he is very smart and talented I look up to him. My dad has given me the courage to pursue a higher education, knowing that he supports every decision I make. I’m the first female in my family that has continue to study and work hard to set highers goals and some day become the first doctor in the family.
